Neighborhood North is excited to offer a suite of afterschool arts and maker programs for learners in Kindergarten through Middle School during the academic year. These programs provide consistent opportunities for young people to develop creativity, collaboration, and confidence. Across all of these initiatives, we use a maker-centered approach to STEAM learning, supported by specially trained Teaching Artists who extend and enrich school-day learning. Through open-ended projects and collaborative challenges, students explore new ideas, practice with real tools and materials, and apply their learning in creative, meaningful ways. Along the way, they expand vocabulary, strengthen math and spatial reasoning, and build the problem-solving skills that support long-term academic success.

Maker Monday is a free afterschool drop-in program for students in 5th–8th grade. Young makers can engage in self-guided exploration of art in all its forms—textiles, sculpture, painting, video game design, cartooning, and more! It’s a space for teen makers to dive deeper with a community of enthusiastic mentors and peers in our versatile makerspace.
All participants need a signed waiver and permission slip.
When: Mondays, 3:30–5:30 pm.
Crafternoons are three-week, drop-off art sessions where K–5th graders explore creativity alongside a featured Teaching Artist each month. Each series introduces new materials and techniques—such as painting, collage, fiber arts, or sculpture—giving children the chance to learn directly from working artists in our community.
This small-group format strengthens fine motor skills, problem-solving, persistence, and artistic confidence. It also allows for deeper skill-building and meaningful relationships with peers and Teaching Artists.
When: 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Tuesdays monthly, 4:00–5:30 pm.
In partnership with Trails Ministries, Neighborhood North provides FREE afterschool and arts enrichment for 20 K–5th grade students enrolled in Trails. The program offers math and reading tutoring, homework help, social-emotional learning (including yoga and experiential games), mentoring, and arts-based learning opportunities.
